Dr. Li Wenliang Forced to Sign 'Rumor-Spreading' Statement

Wuhan ophthalmologist Dr. Li Wenliang had warned colleagues on Dec 30, 2019 about a possible SARS-like outbreak. On Jan 3, police summoned him and forced him to sign a statement that he was 'making false comments.' He later contracted COVID-19 from a patient and died on Feb 7, 2020, becoming a symbol of official suppression of early warnings.
