Shakira and Howard Buffett Pledge $1.25 Million to Rebuild Ten Chocó Schools

| Colombia

Colombian singer Shakira made a surprise visit to Quibdó, the capital of earthquake-hit Chocó, alongside Howard Graham Buffett — son of investor Warren Buffett — and representatives of CAF (Development Bank of Latin America) and her Barefoot Foundation. Shakira announced a $1.25 million contribution from herself, Global Citizen, Live Nation, and CAF to rebuild schools damaged by the quake, including a pledge to rebuild the Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó, and said she would partner with Buffett to build ten new schools in Quibdó and rural Chocó. The Howard G. Buffett Foundation committed separate funding to rebuild ten additional schools in the department, one of Colombia's poorest and hardest-hit by the disaster.
