Solar Becomes EU's Largest Power Source as June Output Hits Record 25% Share

| Climate Solutions

Solar generated a record 52 TWh of EU electricity in June 2026 -- 25% of the bloc's monthly generation and, for the first time, more than any other single source, ahead of nuclear (21%), gas (15%), wind (14%), hydro (12%) and coal (8%), according to Ember data released July 14. It beat solar's previous monthly high of 47 TWh (23%) set in May 2026. Spain hit 34% solar share in June (a national first), Germany reached 36% (up from 33% in May), and Poland reached 24%. Solar has grown more than a fifth annually in the EU since 2021, when it supplied just 10% of June power -- the fastest growth of any electricity source. Eighteen EU countries have now set new monthly solar-share records so far in 2026.
