Global EV Sales Top 2 Million in a Single Month for the First Time

Global electric vehicle sales reached 2.0 million units in June 2026 -- the first calendar month ever to top 2 million -- according to Rho Motion / Benchmark Mineral Intelligence data reported July 9. Year-to-date sales hit 9.6 million, up 27% versus H1 2025. Europe posted its strongest EV month on record (+31% YoY, +28% month-on-month), with France, Denmark, Spain and Portugal each setting all-time monthly highs. China shipped roughly 1 million EVs in June, though domestic sales fell 11% YoY even as exports climbed. North America sales fell year-to-date as the US federal EV tax credit expired in September 2025. India's EV retail sales hit a record 306,220 units in June, with penetration surpassing 12% for the first time.
