Rystad Energy data published in early June 2026 showed Australian utility-scale solar and wind combined generated 4.6 TWh in May 2026, a 10% year-on-year increase from 4.2 TWh in May 2025. Victoria set a new monthly wind generation record, producing 1,079 GWh of wind power in May — the state's highest monthly wind output on record. The streak of annual output increases reflects consistent capacity additions across the National Electricity Market (NEM). April 2026 had already posted a 24% year-on-year gain at 4.7 TWh. Australia's renewable buildout is accelerating under the federal government's 82% renewable electricity by 2030 target, with large-scale solar and wind additions continuing to outpace coal retirements.
