EDF-Abraxas JV Files EIS for 3+ GW Wind-to-Green Hydrogen Project in Newfoundland, Canada

Exploits Valley Renewable Energy Corporation (EVREC), a joint venture of EDF and Abraxas, filed its Environmental Impact Statement for a 3+ GW onshore wind-to-green hydrogen and ammonia project in Central Newfoundland — one of Canada's largest renewable energy initiatives. At full capacity, the project targets 180,000 tonnes per year of renewable fuel-of-non-biological origin (RFNBO) hydrogen or up to 1 million tonnes per year of RFNBO ammonia for export. The EIS was filed under Newfoundland and Labrador provincial environmental assessment guidelines. The project represents a major step in Canada's green hydrogen export ambitions, leveraging Newfoundland's world-class wind resources to produce low-carbon hydrogen for European and Asian markets seeking to decarbonize heavy industry.
