Ford Energy Launches US-Assembled Grid-Scale Battery Storage Subsidiary with 20 GWh/yr Target

| Climate Solutions

Ford Motor Company officially unveiled Ford Energy on May 11, 2026, a wholly owned subsidiary manufacturing US-assembled battery energy storage systems (BESS) for utilities, data centers, and industrial customers. The subsidiary repurposes Ford's Glendale, Kentucky EV battery facility (formerly BlueOval SK) with a target annual production of 20 GWh — ranking among the largest US-domestic BESS manufacturing commitments announced to date. The flagship product, the 'DC Block,' is a 20-foot containerized BESS based on 512 Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) prismatic cells, available in 2-hour (FE-250) and 4-hour (FE-450) configurations. Ford plans a $2 billion investment with first deliveries expected in late 2027. The launch positions Ford as a major player in the US grid storage market, which is expanding rapidly to support renewable integration: the US added 23 GW of battery storage in 2025 and is on track for 25+ GW in 2026. Ford Energy is targeting utility customers transitioning coal plants to clean energy with storage-backed renewable capacity.
