Super Micro Co-Founder Resigns from Board After Chip Smuggling Indictment
One day after his federal indictment, Super Micro co-founder Yih-Shyan Liaw resigned from the company's board of directors. Super Micro confirmed it had placed Liaw and sales manager Ruei-Tsang Chang on administrative leave and terminated its relationship with contractor Ting-Wei Sun. The company stated it was not a named defendant in the case and said it had cooperated with investigators. Al Jazeera and NBC News reported the charges drew widespread attention to the enforcement gap in US AI chip export controls, as the case highlighted how restricted Nvidia B200 and H200 GPUs were being rerouted to China through Southeast Asian intermediaries — a pattern prosecutors said had been ongoing for years.
