Storm Toll Climbs to 13 Dead, 18 Missing as 41,000+ Remain Isolated in Coquimbo

SENAPRED updated its balance for the frontal storm system to 13 confirmed deaths and 18 missing persons (11 in the Coquimbo Region, 7 in Atacama), up from the initial tally of 10 dead and 4 missing reported when the State of Catastrophe was decreed on July 20. Director Alicia Cebrián attributed the jump in missing-persons reports to new complaints filed as communications were restored, noting Carabineros logged 14 presumed-fatality reports in a single 24-hour span. Roughly 41,000–45,000 people remained isolated by washed-out roads and bridges, with Coquimbo Region alone accounting for over 40,000 of the isolated. More than 13,500 people were displaced and Red Alert status remained in force for Coquimbo, Huasco Province, and Tierra Amarilla.
