Culture Minister Urtasun Presses Vivas to 'Speed Up' Transfer of 500 Ceuta Minors to Mainland

Culture Minister Ernest Urtasun publicly urged Ceuta president Juan Jesús Vivas to 'agilice' (speed up) the mainland transfer of 500 unaccompanied minors that Youth and Childhood Minister Sira Rego had proposed, saying 'necesitamos su colaboración' (we need your cooperation) and calling the relocations 'absolutely necessary' as 'a matter of humanity.' Urtasun said an administrative process still has to be completed on Ceuta's end and cited precedents from Lampedusa and the Greek islands, while accusing the PP of an 'absolute lack of solidarity' since no PP-run autonomous community has offered placements. Separately, Ceuta's government published a cost schedule for minor transfers — €50 by boat, €21 per taxi kilometre, €25 per half-hour of flight time — and had allocated up to €200,000 for the transfers.
