Childhood Minister Says 54 Ceuta Minors Already Reunited With Families on Mainland, 300 More Cases Pending

Speaking during a visit to Sagunto (Valencia), Minister of Childhood and Youth Sira Rego said 54 unaccompanied minors who arrived in Ceuta during the July 30-31 mass crossing have already been reunited with family members on the mainland since Aug 1, with another 300 case files currently in process. Rego said family reunification is carried out wherever the relatives are located — in Spain, elsewhere in the EU, or back in Morocco — and stressed 'it is impossible for Ceuta to handle this volume of children alone.' Her ministry, through the UMAIME unit, said it supports Ceuta's government with interviews and vulnerability assessments, and noted roughly 700 minors were relocated from Ceuta over the previous year under earlier immigration-law reforms; Ceuta has been allocated €90M for reception and transfer of minors.
