Thousands of Migrants Remain on Ceuta's Streets as Madrid Voices Confidence in Morocco's EU Commitment

Weeks after the Poniente port camp opened with only 1,700 places, thousands of migrants remained on Ceuta's streets and beaches, with La Moncloa citing roughly 3,000 still outside official facilities while the Ceuta city government maintains a considerably higher figure. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska again described Morocco as a 'socio leal' (loyal partner) for its containment efforts, and PM Pedro Sánchez reiterated there is no solid evidence that Rabat's government orchestrated the July 30-31 crossings. Spanish government sources said they are confident Morocco will honour the commitment it communicated to the EU on Sep 14 to readmit migrants, including Moroccan nationals and unaccompanied minors.
