Sánchez Raises Ceuta Reception Target to 10,000 Places, Calls Morocco's Handling 'Intelligent'

In an interview on La Sexta's 'El Intermedio,' PM Pedro Sánchez said the government aims to have close to 10,000 migrant reception places activated in Ceuta, up from roughly 4,500 currently deployed and a planned 6,000 by the end of the week — a sharp jump from the 500 places available when the crisis began. On Morocco's role in the July 30-31 crossing, Sánchez said he would not call Moroccan authorities' conduct passive but rather 'an intention to manage this crowd intelligently,' while maintaining no institution has produced 'solid evidence' of a deliberately planned Moroccan operation. He said the government's National Security Law-based unified command has set itself a deadline of 'end of this year' to stabilize the situation, denied being blackmailed by Morocco over Pegasus spyware allegations, and dismissed the espionage claims as fit for 'a Netflix series.'
