Yellow Rain Alerts for 11 Alcaldías as Pre-Rainy Season Orange Air Quality Contingencies Activated
Mexico's National Meteorological Service (SMN) issued yellow rain alerts for 11 of CDMX's 16 alcaldías on May 13 as the city entered the critical pre-rainy season transition. Simultaneously, the CAMe (Comisión Ambiental de la Megalópolis) activated orange-phase air quality contingency protocols in multiple alcaldías including Iztapalapa, Venustiano Carranza, Gustavo A. Madero, Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Xochimilco, and Tlalpan, due to elevated ozone and PM2.5 concentrations exacerbated by stagnant seasonal air masses. CDMX Protección Civil urged residents in flood-prone zones to clear drainage channels and avoid low-lying areas. The alerts came ahead of the official rainy season start date of May 15, which the Brugada government had already announced infrastructure measures to address.
