476 Firefighters Battle Pear Lake Blaze as Warming Trend Threatens Renewed Growth
The Pear Lake fire in the Cariboo held at 164,745 hectares as of Aug 24, with the BC Wildfire Service reporting 476 firefighting personnel, 89 structure protection workers, 120 heavy equipment units and 21 helicopters assigned. Crews continued building machine guard and conducting planned ignitions south of Pavilion Mountain to bolster containment lines. A warming and drying trend expected to begin Monday could increase fire activity despite weekend rainfall. Six evacuation orders and six evacuation alerts remain at the Big Bar complex; the Village of Clinton rescinded most of its evacuation alert but kept some properties on alert due to flood risk.
