BRICS Competition Authorities Adopt Joint Statement on Fair Competition in Renewable Energy Markets
The Competition Commission of India (CCI), under India's 2026 BRICS Chairship, hosted the Meeting of Heads of BRICS Competition Authorities in Udaipur, Rajasthan on August 8, 2026. Chaired by CCI Chairperson Ravneet Kaur, the meeting brought together competition regulators from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, who adopted a Joint Statement titled 'Strengthening Cooperation to Promote Fair Competition, including in Renewable Energy Markets.' The CCI presented findings from a collaborative study, 'Emerging Competition Landscape in the Renewable Energy Sector in BRICS,' examining competition dynamics as the bloc's members expand renewable-energy capacity. Brazil's competition authority CADE briefed participants on preparations for the 10th BRICS International Competition Conference, planned for 2027. Kaur said competition-law interventions 'must remain principled, evidence-based and firmly anchored in the core objectives of competition law.'
