Confederación Sindical de Choferes Calls National 24-Hour Strike for Monday, Sep 28

Following a national meeting in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the Confederación Sindical de Choferes de Bolivia, led by Lucio Gómez, formally called a 24-hour national transport stoppage for Monday, Sep 28, 2026, threatening to paralyze urban, interprovincial and international transport in rejection of Decree 5716's elimination of the diesel subsidy and the new Bs. 17.95/L price. Gómez said "El lunes no habrá transporte público en el país" and warned the protest could escalate into an indefinite service suspension if demands — including tariff increases to offset operating costs — are not met. The government responded that 80.3% of public-transport vehicles nationwide don't depend exclusively on diesel, and deployed police and military plus regional ministers to explain the measure to affected sectors.
