Ford's CATL-Licensed BlueOval Battery Park Michigan Begins LFP Cell Production

Ford's BlueOval Battery Park Michigan (Marshall) completed full-process trial production of its first batch of prismatic LFP cells on June 17, 2026, and CATL vice president Meng Xiangfeng confirmed the plant "was completed and began production in June." The $2B, 20 GWh/yr facility uses LFP technology licensed from CATL — with no Chinese-sourced raw materials — making Ford the first automaker to produce LFP battery cells for mainstream consumer EVs in the US. First automotive packs are scheduled for delivery later in 2026, destined for Ford's affordable midsize electric truck on its Universal EV Platform. The project's scope was cut from an original 35 GWh/$3.5B plan (Feb 2023) to 20 GWh/$2B (Nov 2023) amid political pressure over the CATL licensing arrangement.
