Samsung SDI in Final Talks with Amazon AWS for $700M+ Data Center Battery Supply

| Battery Revolution

UPI and Korean media reported on April 28 that Samsung SDI and Amazon Web Services have entered final-stage negotiations for a battery backup unit (BBU) and UPS supply agreement valued at approximately $700 million to over 1 trillion Korean won. The deal would make Samsung SDI a key LFP battery supplier to the world's largest cloud infrastructure provider as AI-driven data center power demand surges globally. Samsung SDI confirmed talks are ongoing but that no contract has been finalized at the time of reporting. The potential agreement reflects a fast-growing data center battery market: hyperscalers require uninterruptible power for millions of servers, creating demand for large-format LFP cells with the cycle life, thermal stability, and cost economics suited to stationary standby applications. The deal, if finalized, would represent one of the largest data center battery supply contracts on record.
