Judge Orders Preventive Detention for Aguirre at Altiplano Prison
A control judge at the Federal Criminal Justice Center inside the Altiplano maximum-security prison validated the legality of Ángel Aguirre's arrest and imposed preventive detention on charges of forced disappearance of persons and crimes against the administration of justice. Two protected witnesses testified to the existence of the destroyed security-camera footage and to Aguirre's direct orders to eliminate it — one, a collaborator, confirmed in January 2026 that the footage had been extracted for delivery to the then-governor; a second witness stated in May 2026 that Aguirre ordered officials to make evidence from the area disappear. Aguirre's defense requested more time; the hearing to determine formal charges was set to resume August 11. Rights groups noted the FGR had not directly notified the families of the students before the arrest.
