Former Guerrero Governor Ángel Aguirre Arrested Over Concealed Ayotzinapa Evidence

The FGR arrested Ángel Aguirre Rivero — Governor of Guerrero at the time of the September 26, 2014 disappearances, who resigned that October amid public pressure — in Tepotzotlán, State of Mexico. Prosecutors accuse him of ordering the destruction or concealment of security-camera footage (cameras 12 and 15) from the Iguala Palace of Justice that captured municipal and state police intercepting Estrella de Oro bus 1531, on which normalista students were traveling. Fiscal General Ernestina Godoy described it as 'a deliberate operation structured from the highest level of the State Executive,' not an isolated act, and said the arrest followed a reanalysis of the original 2014 investigation. Aguirre had previously denied giving any instruction on the handling of the evidence.
