Sheinbaum Tells Families GIEI Will Not Return; Proposes Alternative International Mechanism
President Claudia Sheinbaum met with families of the 43 at Palacio Nacional — their first meeting in six months and the seventh dialogue of her administration. After more than two hours, families were told the return of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) would not be possible, and that a parallel scheme to reincorporate GIEI members via the UN was also not viable. Sheinbaum said her government would instead seek an alternative international mechanism, similar to the one previously provided by the IACHR. Families' representative Isidoro Vicario described the meeting as yielding 'few advances,' with the outstanding demand for delivery of 853 military intelligence documents from SEDENA still unresolved.
