ESA Council Reframes Gateway Contributions, Sets December Rome Ministerial
Following NASA's March 2026 Gateway pause, ESA's 347th Council concluded that development of the Lunar I-Hab habitation module will continue to critical design review, Lunar View logistics/refueling activities will slow while preserving key technologies, and Lunar Link communications is being studied for integration into ESA's Moonlight constellation. Member states set a December 2026 Interim Ministerial in Rome to define Europe's exploration roadmap — a decision Director General Josef Aschbacher likened to the pivotal 2023 Seville Space Summit.
