Nexus Intelligence AI Chest X-Ray Screening Passes 25,000 Scans Across 40 Health Sites in Africa and Asia
Pretoria-based startup Nexus Intelligence, founded by Dr. Gerhard Ferreira and clinical engineer Andries Vorster, has deployed its regulated AI chest X-ray screening platform — built on a chest X-ray model licensed from Google Research — at roughly 40 healthcare sites across six countries including South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Cameroon and Vietnam, processing more than 25,000 X-rays. The CE-certified system flags likely tuberculosis and other lung abnormalities in under a minute, prioritizing radiologists' workload and cutting reporting backlogs in settings where specialist radiologists are scarce; it can run entirely offline, including at an underground deployment at the Mponeng gold mine, one of the world's deepest.
