China's Special Envoy Yue Xiaoyong Visits Islamabad to Revive Urumqi Peace Process

| Afghanistan War

China's special envoy for Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong, visited Islamabad and held talks with Pakistan's special representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, on August 31 and September 1, 2026, in an effort to revive the China-mediated Urumqi peace process between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban. Pakistan's Foreign Office later said it welcomed China's continued engagement but that Beijing's mediation could not substitute for verifiable Taliban action against groups operating from Afghan soil.
