Grenade Blast Near Private School in Kabul's Dasht-e-Barchi Injures 52+
An explosion, caused by a hand grenade, struck near the Sham-e Hedayat private school in the Mahdia neighborhood of Kabul's Dasht-e-Barchi district — a predominantly Hazara Shia area — around 4:30pm local time, injuring more than 52 people, mostly students. Taliban police spokesperson Khalid Zadran confirmed the blast was caused by a hand grenade; witnesses said the device exploded while in the possession of a school student, who was among the wounded. No group has claimed responsibility, and Taliban authorities have not determined whether the detonation was accidental or deliberate. Dasht-e-Barchi has repeatedly been targeted by ISIS-K in past attacks on schools and mosques, though no such link has been confirmed here. Taliban authorities later detained four people, including the school principal, a teacher, and the father of two students, for questioning.
