Torkham Border Crossing Fully Closed After Sniper Attack; Operations Continue
The Torkham border crossing was fully closed on March 28 following the previous night's sniper attack that wounded a Pakistani Frontier Corps Subedar. Pakistani authorities cited the 'aggressive attitude and behaviour of the Afghan side' and a 'deteriorating security situation' as justification. The closure halted all deportation operations that had resumed just two days earlier. Pakistani paramilitary forces maintained heightened alert along the border. Operation Ghazab-il-Haq continued in Kunar, Paktika, Khost, and Nangarhar provinces. No new ceasefire negotiations were announced, and Pakistan rejected diplomatic calls for talks without first addressing TTP sanctuary issues in Afghanistan. The conflict was described by regional analysts as at full intensity with no de-escalation pathway visible.
