Pakistan Claims 527 Taliban Fighters Killed; Taliban Claims 307 Pakistani Soldiers Dead
By March 27, Pakistan's military had issued cumulative Operation Ghazab-il-Haq battle damage assessment claims: 527 Taliban fighters killed, 755 injured, 62 locations struck across Afghanistan, 237 Taliban outposts destroyed, 38 strongholds captured, and 205 Taliban tanks, vehicles, and artillery pieces destroyed. The Afghan Taliban government issued counter-claims stating 307 Pakistani soldiers killed, 350+ injured, and 64 Pakistani checkposts and 7 bases captured or destroyed. Neither side's figures could be independently verified. ACLED and other conflict monitoring organizations noted both Pakistan and Taliban figures appeared inflated relative to third-party assessments, a common pattern in modern conflict reporting. Analysts noted the significant divergence in claimed casualties reflected the difficulty of independent verification along the rugged Durand Line.
