Taliban Declares Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan

The Taliban announces the formation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) and its interim government. Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund becomes caretaker Prime Minister, with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar as deputy. Sirajuddin Haqqani is appointed Minister of Interior. No country recognizes the government diplomatically. The government includes no women and no members of former republic.
