Taliban Leader Mansour Killed by US Drone in Pakistan

| Afghanistan War

Taliban supreme leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour is killed in a US drone strike in Baluchistan province, Pakistan — outside the traditional FATA zone of CIA operations. The strike represents the first acknowledged targeting of Taliban leadership on Pakistani territory. Haibatullah Akhundzada is subsequently appointed as Taliban supreme leader, a position he holds through 2026.
