Nuremberg Trials Begin — Nazi Leaders on Trial
The International Military Tribunal convened at Nuremberg to try 24 major Nazi war criminals for crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. Twelve were sentenced to death, including Göring and Ribbentrop; seven received prison sentences. The trials established the Nuremberg Principles and the modern concept of international criminal law.
