Munich Agreement Signed
Britain, France, Italy, and Germany signed the Munich Agreement, allowing Nazi Germany to annex the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia. British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned declaring 'peace for our time,' a promise that would prove catastrophically wrong. The agreement emboldened Hitler and demonstrated that Western democracies would not challenge Nazi expansion.
