National WWI Museum and Memorial Announces 'Liberty's Beacon' Light Show for Its Centennial

The National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri, announced 'Liberty's Beacon,' a free nightly projection-mapping light and sound installation on the 217-foot Liberty Memorial Tower, marking 100 years since President Calvin Coolidge dedicated the Liberty Memorial in 1926. The eight-to-ten-minute show, created by artists including Xavier de Richemont, Leslie Epsztein, Camille Gross and Onionlab, depicts the memorial's four core virtues of honor, courage, sacrifice and patriotism, and will also commemorate America's 250th anniversary. It premieres at the museum's Centennial Gala on September 21, 2026, before running publicly on seven weekends from September 25 through November 11, 2026, with shows from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Museum President and CEO Matt Naylor said the memorial's founders 'built it on values meant to outlast their own time,' expressing hope the installation honors the past century while pointing to future responsibilities.
