Swiss Football Association Withdraws Support for Infantino's Re-election Bid

| World Cup 2026

The Swiss Football Association (SFV), led by president Peter Knäbel, rescinded its earlier endorsement of Gianni Infantino for another term as FIFA president, citing unresolved questions over transparency, accountability, institutional responsibility and the handling of disciplinary matters. The SFV also pointed to the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise commercial-subsidiary plan and the lifting of US forward Folarin Balogun's one-match World Cup suspension after a call from President Trump to Infantino. Infantino is Swiss and FIFA is headquartered in Switzerland; England, Wales, France and Serbia had previously withdrawn support. The FIFA Council meets Oct 15 to discuss governance reform ahead of the March 2027 election in Morocco.
