Germany Delays World Cup Squad Announcement to May 21 — Injury Crisis Forces Julian Nagelsmann's Hand
Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed on April 28 that the DFB will postpone its World Cup squad announcement by nine days to May 21, citing an extraordinary injury crisis that has already ruled out multiple key players. Serge Gnabry is confirmed out with an adductor tear (April 22); Leroy Sané remains in doubt with a continuing knee issue; and the team's squad depth at attacking positions has been significantly compromised. The later announcement date gives the medical staff additional time to assess players returning from injury and give fringe candidates more time to prove fitness in final Bundesliga and European matches. Germany open the tournament in Group E on June 14 vs. Curaçao at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, giving the squad approximately 24 days between final club matches and the tournament opener. Germany are among the favorites despite the injury setbacks, with a core of Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, and Kai Havertz expected to drive the attack. Final squads for all 48 teams are due June 1.
