Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 6,509 as Debris Clearance Reaches 28.6%
National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez posted an update via X on August 25 putting the confirmed death toll from the June 24 twin earthquakes at 6,509, up from 6,438 a week earlier, with 6,462 people rescued alive and 226,696 treated in hospitals since the disaster. Of 60,785 homes evaluated, 35,545 remained habitable, 14,239 were restricted for use, and 11,001 were classified as high-risk. Cleanup crews had collected 600,790.70 tons of debris — 28.61% of the estimated total — while only 335 replacement homes had been delivered to displaced families against the government's promised 4,000 by year-end.
