First Direct US–Venezuela Commercial Flight Lands in Caracas After Seven-Year Suspension
Flight AA3599, operated by Envoy Air (an American Airlines regional subsidiary), departed Miami International Airport at 10:11 AM ET on April 30 and landed at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Caracas approximately three hours later, ending a seven-year suspension on direct commercial service imposed by the US Department of Homeland Security in 2019. The Embraer E175 regional jet carried approximately 75 passengers. Return fares exceeded $1,200 for early May bookings. American Airlines announced a second daily Miami–Caracas service to begin on May 21, with further planned expansion to Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, and New York. The resumption of air service followed the January 2026 removal of Nicolás Maduro from power and was seen as a milestone in the normalization of US–Venezuela relations under the transitional government of Acting President Delcy Rodríguez.
