Twin Earthquake Doublet Strikes Venezuela's Central Coast

A Mw 7.2 foreshock strikes at 18:04 local time (22:04 UTC) 20km east of San Felipe, Yaracuy state, followed 33–39 seconds later by a Mw 7.5 mainshock 20km west of Catia La Mar, La Guaira. Both events rupture at 10km depth via right-lateral strike-slip faulting along the Boconó–San Sebastián–El Pilar fault system; USGS rates the sequence PAGER RED. It is the strongest earthquake to hit Venezuela since the 1900 M7.7 San Narciso quake. GLIDE ID: EQ-2026-000093-VEN.
