Supreme Court Strikes Down IEEPA Tariffs in Learning Resources v. Trump
In a 6-3 decision authored by Chief Justice Roberts, the Supreme Court ruled IEEPA does not authorize sweeping, open-ended tariffs, invalidating the central legal pillar of Trump's trade strategy. All IEEPA-based tariffs terminated at midnight February 24. The ruling left unresolved the fate of more than $166 billion already collected, sending the refund question back to the Court of International Trade.
