Dominican Republic: 22,000 US Troops Invade

| US-LatAm Interventions

President Lyndon Johnson ordered US Marines and paratroopers into the Dominican Republic on April 28, 1965, citing the threat of a 'communist takeover' after a constitutional revolt sought to restore elected President Juan Bosch. At its peak, 22,000 US troops were deployed (Operation Power Pack). The intervention prevented restoration of the democratically elected government and led to the installation of Joaquín Balaguer, a Trujillo ally.
