Capitol Riot — Trump Supporters Storm Congress; Certification Delayed; 140 Officers Injured
Hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, attempting to prevent Congress from certifying Biden's 2020 Electoral College victory. The assault injured 140 police officers and resulted in five deaths during or immediately after the event. Trump was impeached a second time 57-43 in the Senate for 'incitement of insurrection' — below the 2/3 threshold for conviction. Over 1,265 people were eventually charged. The January 6th House Select Committee's 845-page report found Trump criminally liable for the attack.
