IAEA Brokers Seventh Localized Ceasefire to Repair Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant's Last Power Line

A localized ceasefire brokered by the IAEA took effect on September 5 near the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, allowing Ukrainian technicians to repair the 330-kilovolt Ferosplavna-1 line — the plant's sole remaining external power connection, severed since August 20 by fighting north of the Dnipro River. The plant had been relying on emergency diesel generators to cool its six reactors and spent fuel pools and was running low on fuel, raising the risk of a station blackout. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said an agency team would monitor the repair work, which followed demining of the area; it was the seventh such localized truce negotiated at the plant since the war began.
