Russia Strikes Kyiv, Pohreby and Six Oblasts for 5th Consecutive Day, Killing 7

Russian forces attacked Ukraine overnight into August 31 with one Kh-59 cruise missile and 121 long-range attack drones, of which Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 96; the missile did not reach its target, but several drones evaded air defenses and struck 11 locations. A morning drone strike caused a large fire at warehouse facilities in the village of Pohreby, roughly 2 km north of Kyiv, injuring six people — three hospitalized in serious condition — Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said. It was Kyiv's fifth consecutive day under near-constant air raid alerts. Across the country, at least 7 people were killed and 45 injured in six oblasts: 4 killed and 7 injured in Donetsk Oblast, 2 killed and 3 injured in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, 1 killed and 16 injured in Kherson Oblast, 5 injured in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast (plus 2 more in a separate Kryvyi Rih strike), 4 injured in Kharkiv Oblast, and 8 injured in Kyiv Oblast's Pohreby village; a Nova Poshta terminal was also hit in Odesa. Center for Defense Strategies analyst Viktor Kevliuk said the sustained tempo of strikes is designed 'to keep Ukrainian air defenses in constant combat readiness,' not merely to hit individual targets.
