On May 27, 2026 — Day 1,553 of Russia's full-scale invasion — Ukraine's long-range drone campaign produced its most geographically expansive results yet. Russian authorities were forced to restrict civilian airspace over the Moscow air zone due to incoming Ukrainian drone activity, with dozens of flights diverted or delayed. Most significantly, Russian authorities at Kaliningrad's Khrabrovo Airport activated 'Operation Carpet' — a special aviation restriction protocol — for the first time since the start of the war. Dozens of flights were unable to land and circled in the sky.
