Russia Violates Ukraine's Declared Ceasefire 1,820 Times in 10 Hours; Zelensky Warns of Symmetric Response

| Ukraine War

Within the first 10 hours of Ukraine's declared ceasefire (which began midnight May 5–6), President Zelensky reported 1,820 Russian ceasefire violations — including nearly 30 assault operations and more than 20 airstrikes using over 70 guided glide bombs. Russia launched 108 combat drones and 3 missiles overnight between May 5 and 6, striking major cities including Kharkiv. The overnight attacks killed at least 22 people and wounded 82 others. Russia's declared Victory Day ceasefire (May 8–9) came with a simultaneous threat: if Ukraine disrupted the Moscow parade, Russia would launch a 'massive missile strike' on central Kyiv. Zelensky addressed the nation: 'Russia has responded to our proposal for a ceasefire only with new strikes and new attacks... Ukraine will respond in kind.' He stated Ukraine would 'determine our entirely justified responses depending on the situation tonight and tomorrow.' Senior Ukrainian officials also said they saw 'no point' in following Russia's parade-linked ceasefire.
