Ukraine Strikes Russia's Largest Oil Refinery in Kirishi with 'Flamingo' Cruise Missiles — Facility Halts Operations
Overnight May 4–5, Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), and Special Operations Forces struck the Kirishi (KINEF) oil refinery in Leningrad Oblast — one of Russia's three largest refineries — using long-range cruise missiles. The attack damaged three of the refinery's four crude distillation units, forcing a complete halt to operations. The facility processes approximately 20–21 million tons of crude oil annually and produces over 6% of Russia's total refined oil. President Zelensky also confirmed that Ukrainian 'Flamingo' cruise missiles — with a reported range of over 1,500 km — struck the JSC VNIIR-Progress military production institute in Cheboksary, which manufactures relay protection and automation equipment for Russian precision weapons. Russian media reported 2 killed and 32 injured in the Cheboksary strike. Ukraine also struck an oil pumping station in Leningrad Oblast in the same operation.
