Thousands of Easter Ceasefire Violations Reported by Both Sides

| Ukraine War

Both Ukraine and Russia reported thousands of violations of the 32-hour Orthodox Easter truce, throwing the ceasefire's durability into serious doubt. Ukraine's military documented 2,299 ceasefire violations as of 7:00 a.m. on April 12 — including 28 assault actions, 479 shellings, 747 drone strikes, and 1,045 FPV drone strikes. Russia's Defence Ministry in turn accused Kyiv of 1,971 ceasefire breaches. The truce ran from 4:00 p.m. local time April 11 to midnight April 12 and was the first agreed bilateral halt since peace talks accelerated. Despite the widespread violations, both sides completed a prisoner exchange of 175 POWs each, plus 14 civilians (7 per side), the one concrete achievement of the truce period.
