Avdiivka Falls to Russia After Months-Long Siege
Ukrainian forces withdrew from Avdiivka, an industrial city that had been a Ukrainian stronghold since 2014. The city fell after four months of intense Russian assault using overwhelming force, including massive infantry attacks and hundreds of armored vehicles. Russia had surrounded the city on three sides. The fall was Russia's biggest tactical gain since Bakhmut and exposed Ukrainian ammunition shortages due to US Congress delays in passing aid.
