Trump Administration Appeals Boston Judge's Ruling Blocking Mail-Voting Restrictions
The Trump administration filed a notice of appeal on Friday, August 28, 2026, challenging a ruling by US District Judge Indira Talwani in Boston that blocked implementation of Trump's executive order restricting mail-in voting for the next two weeks. Talwani, ruling Thursday, August 27, found that states lack the time and money to redesign ballots, update systems, and train officials to comply with the order's Postal Service data-sharing requirements before the first general-election mail ballots go out September 4. The case is now before the 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals and could return quickly to the Supreme Court, which on August 24 lifted a separate injunction on the same order without ruling on its underlying legality.
