DC Circuit Strikes Down Trump's Asylum Suspension as Unlawful

| Trump 45 & 47

A three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit ruled 2-1 that Trump's Inauguration Day executive order suspending the right to seek asylum at the southern border is unlawful. The court found the Immigration and Nationality Act affirmatively grants migrants the right to apply for asylum, and the president cannot unilaterally override it. The ruling is a significant legal blow to one of Trump's signature immigration priorities. DHS stated the decision 'will not be the last word,' signaling a probable direct appeal to the Supreme Court. Separately, the administration moved to again end legal status of people who entered under the CBP One app, issuing new parole termination notices.
